NEW Art Exhibition

CINNAMON SOHO presents: ‘Fusion’ Art exhibition by Melissa Alley
30 March – 1 November 2015

For the first time, Melissa Alley’s paintings and installations are exhibited together at best restaurants Soho London, Cinnamon Soho.

Melissa Alley has exhibited in the USA, Europe, Far East and Australia and the UK. She curated DIY, 19 Variations on the Theme of Wallpaper, which was listed as one of the top ten exhibitions in London for the millennium in Time Out. Her exhibitions include The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. In October she took part in Deptford Stories and was highlighted by Louisa Buck in her blog for the Art Newspaper. Alley will be exhibiting at The Swedenborg Society, London later this year. Alley is a graduate of Central St Martins where she was taught by the Visionary artist, Cecil Collins. Through his teaching, she learnt the value of using both hands simultaneously as a means of balancing the analytical and intuitive, the rhythmic and the structural within her work. This love of rhythm and harmony can be seen in both her installations and her intuitive paintings.

Melissa’s installations, or Colour Fugues, comprise of 4 x 4 x 3/4 inch wooden tablets placed in grid formation and are concerned with exploring and manipulating the special and rhythmical qualities of colour and light within a rigorous structure. Music has always inspired her and these pieces aim to express its fluidity as well as its underlying structures and constraints. All five facets of the tablets are painted with different hues of colours that interact to create a dynamic interplay. “Melissa Alley enlivens the basement with the syncopated beat of brightly coloured squares.“ Sarah Kent on DIY: 19 Variations on the Theme of Wallpaper (co-curated by Alley), Time Out, 2000. As Above So Below, her piece specially created for Cinnamon Soho links both levels of the restaurant and adds colour, rhythm and beat to the dining experience.

As an extra special treat we’re offering a complimentary Mango Kick cocktail to all guests that dine at Cinnamon Soho and tweet a picture of the exhibition! Simply follow @CinnamonSoho #MelissaAlley and tweet us with your favourite piece from the exhibition. To claim your complimentary cocktail simply show your tweet to the Duty Manager*.
